FEDERAL TAX CREDIT

(Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit)
Here are some of the benefits that the federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit program is currently offering:
  • For qualifying high efficiency central heat pumps you may qualify for up to $2,000.
  • For attic insulation you may qualify for up to $1,200.
  • For high efficiency straight cool central air conditioning can qualify up to $600.

WHO QUALIFIES:

For the energy efficiency home improvement credit, the home must be:

  • Located in the United States
  • An existing home that you improve or add onto, not a new home

In most cases, the home must be your primary residence (where you live the majority of the year). You can’t claim the credit if you’re a landlord or other property owner who doesn’t live in the home.

  • The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit is filed on Form 1040 using Form 5695 of the individual’s Federal income tax return who paid for the central heat pump and insulation for their home. It is filed in the tax year that the energy efficient central heat pump was installed.
  • To qualify, the central heat pump must meet or exceed the highest efficiency tier (not including any advanced tier) established by the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) that is in effect as of the beginning of the year in which the property is placed in service. To determine if your central heat pump qualifies go to the CEE directory under ‘central air conditioners’ to look up you unit at: https://www.ahrinet.org/certification/cee-directory
